The Opera People brings you its inaugural production, Love and Duty: an adaptation of Mozart's early masterpiece, Il Re Pastore. In this contemporary update, the classic conflict between love and power is played out against the backdrop of inter-generational struggles and the dynamics of control within an extended family.
Business tycoon, Alex Ting has just acquired the night club where his son Ami spends most of his nights pining for Elisa, his college girlfriend, considered an unsuitable match for the first born of the family. To consolidate his wealth and encourage his son to take charge of his life, Alex Ting wants Ami to marry the daughter of the previous owner of the club, Tamiri, who is secretly in love with Alex Ting's right hand man, Algernon. How will the desires of one generation play against the wishes of another when each is desperate to assert their individual authority?
Directed by Tan Liting with script by David Charles Tay and music direction by Alvin Seville, this production features a cast of Singapore's finest young singers accompanied by The Young Musicians' Foundation Orchestra.
